STYLE NEWS: DC SNOWBOARDS

Good things are worth waiting for, and that’s certainly the case with DC’s first foray into snowboards, which comes a full decade after the brand starting making boots and accessories. The inaugural collection includes five series of boards, including one women’s line, that were designed by DC—company co-founder Ken Block personally oversaw the graphics—and their pro riders Devun Walsh, Iikka Blackstrom, Lauri Heiskari and Aaron Biittner. The launch’s technological highlight is the HKD series, which stands for honeycomb Kevlar directional (sounds sweet), which has a handmade core and is their lightest, most responsive board. On the visual front, they enlisted artists Andy Howell and Peter Saville, and Saville’s contribution, especially, has us stoked. His “Contour” design is an interpretation of a classic Joy Division album cover, and the “Hazard” print is eye-popping yellow and black inspired by a Manchester dance club once owned by members of New Order, which seems highly appropriate for ushering in a new order of boards.
