SAN CLEMENTE HIGH WINS WALK THE WALK FOR OC
The latest leg of Hurley’s uber successful Walk The Walk high school fashion face-off came to our backyard last night with an unbelievable show and party at the Irvine Spectrum. A huge and rowdy crowd, hot live music from the Street Drum Corps and Party Squad, hotter models, and a celebrity packed panel of judges made the warm summer night feel more like an ultra cool and exclusive New York fashion event.
MC’d by Hurley’s own model icon Rosie O’Laskey and surf industry veteran Peter King, rival high schools Capistrano Valley, Mission Viejo, Edison, Huntington Beach, and San Clemente gave it their all to impress the judges and take home a huge cash prize for their school’s arts and music program—and of course the envy of everyone.
The rules were simple: Five weeks to design and five minutes to strut. Each school was given Hurley’s 2008 Holiday line and the freedom to reconstruct and revamp any way they saw fit. Chosen themes alternated between HurleyWood and One Voice, with backup catwalk support coming from their schools’ cheer and dance squads.
As expected, judges Bob Hurley (Hurley founder), Ryan Hurley (Bob’s son), Paul Gomez (Senior Vice President of Hurley Global Branding), Berk McCracken (lead singer of The Used), Bar Rafaeli (international super model and Leonardo’s lady), Jenna Woodhull (designer), and Gabriel Tenneberg (designer) were blown away by the energy and talent. But when all was sashayed and done, San Clemente High received the top score as the event’s overall winner for the second year in a row. An additional prize was given to Mission Viejo High for best girls’ design.
