VIDEO VAULT: BEST COAST SUN WAS HIGH (SO WAS I)

Sometimes, New York’ll do that to a person, make them love L.A. That’s what happened to Cali native Bethany Cosentino when she quit her band, Pocahaunted, to go to the New School. After about a year of anxiety, isolation and listening to Brian Wilson while trudging through the snow, she decided to head on back to the West Coast and show the world, through music, how awesome California is. Her new band, Best Coast, is all about the things she loves most: weed, sunshine, beaches, slacker boys. And it’s all fuzzed out in that surf-doofus sound I love so much. Bethany’s like the female Wavves, which makes sense, because they’ve been friends since they were in high school. I just can’t get enough of these beach-brats, especially in high summer. This song, “Sun Was High (So Was I),” is just perfect for right now.
